Best Buffy Flashback
“Do you even like David Boreanaz?!”
Sophy says: I love it when they are this brazen. I fucking love it.
Also, all Buffy references aside, I love the idea that Sydney is such a freak in a relationship that she fully expects a guy to share her celebrity crush. Like how Rin and I expect anyone we’d be willing to lend a cup of sugar to to be at least 15% obsessed with Dianna Agron.
Rin says: There is so much truth in that statement. I COULD NEVER FULLY LOVE SOMEONE WHO DIDN’T LOVE DIANNA.
This will always be one of my favourite references ever. IT’S JUST TOO CUTE.
The paper bag.
Sophy says: Look at her. LOOK AT HER.
I have nothing more to say.
Rin says: I think the best part is that it’s fashioned out of bull clips.
And how it kind of looks like a horse feeder.
And how the only way I can calm Sophy down is with a brown paper bag.
Best ‘Lauren is random’ Moment
“You’re so good at accepting awards!”
Sophy says: Oh Lauren. Bless you for appreciating what others would deride. He’s so good at being vain and ridiculous! He’s so good you’re applauding!
Seriously though, these two have the cutest dynamic. I love the entire scene that developed from this moment, in which Lauren revealed herself to be a possible psychopath who is out to destroy them all specifically by exploiting his daughter’s emotional instability and Simon resolved to keep an adoring eye on her.
“You know what I mean?”
“Not really but I’m using context clues to figure it out.”
I love her I love her I love her /Freddie book.
Rin says: It seems to be a running theme with us that whenever someone cutely applauds they make it into our recaps.
We have a type.
Head In Hands
Sophy says: Rophy have this thing with tambourines. And boy does Robin Williams know how to use one (the way Rophy like to see them used).
Rin says: One time I got Sophy a tambourine for her birthday. Was it a joke? I’ll never tell.
CAUSE THERE’S NOTHING TO TELL.
“You set me up.”
“First rule of snow globes: no talking in snow globes.”
Sophy says: AAAAAAAH;FLKEJSL;FKJESL;KGJ;SLKGE LKJSELKFJSE.
Favourite scene of the show so far? It sure made me sit up and take notice. I mean, not that I hadn’t been giving the show my full attention before or anything, but I feel like this was the moment when things tipped from That cute show I watch into That cute show I could lose my heart to.
A lot of the time this show is about Sydney trying to make things better, most especially for her father. But here she’s the one who needs fixing. She’s the one who needs picking up. And I love that Simon had this idea – you know it was forming in his mind from the moment he fished the snowglobe out of the trash – and I also love that everyone came together to make it happen.
Basically they all got the snowglobe out of the bin for Sydney. They all encouraged her to believe that her stupid teenage dreams were not stupid – no matter how much hot water they got her into or how badly she got burned – that she should keep them and hold to them and not be ashamed or afraid.
From the moment Lauren said “Nothing’s happening. Zach’s just cold,” and swung the red scarf around his neck I had to start clutching my chest, because I knew what was coming. And by the time Andrew was at the piano and Zach was singing like a fabulous loser and Lauren was scattering her snow and Simon was looking on at his daughter, surrounded by friends who helped him make her stupid teenage dream something to smile about with that look on his face like he’s going to explode from love.
I just. I cried. I did. And I’d do it again.
Also it was pretty evident at this point and would become more so that they’re going somewhere with the whole Sydney/Andrew thing, which I get and don’t take issue with, and I also recognize that Zach is the kind of LOL character you’d need six seasons and a movie to plausibly shape into someone your lead could love, but damn do SMG and James have the chemistry.
NOT THAT CHEMISTRY. That belongs to SMG and another James.
But still. Despite the fact that there has been no intentional build up of anything fluttery between them at all, my heart still fluttered a little when she asked “In front of everyone?” and he replied with “Mmhm”.
I CAN’T HELP IT OKAY I’M TRYING REALLY HARD NOT TO SHIP IT BECAUSE HE IS A SELF-OBSESSED LUNATIC BABY MAN AND SYDNEY IS RELATIVELY NORMAL BUT I CAN’T HELP IT.
Rin says: The heart wants what the heart wants. Don’t fight it. Equal opportunity shipping, remember?
This scene was so sweet and touching, and I get what Sophy’s saying about how this was a scene that makes you take notice. There’s nothing wrong with being a cute funny show, because there is definitely a place for that, but if you want to be a show that is going to be remembered you need scenes like this. To make an impact and get people attached you need to give them reasons to care and dig a little deeper into who your characters are, silly snow globe dreams and all. The best comedies not only make you laugh, but they make you cry.
LAUREN THROWING THE SNOW OVER THEM THOUGH.
They’re the cutest little snow globe people ever. I want to shake them all about.
It was just a phone. It was just a phone. It was just a phone.
Sophy says: When Simon pretended he was actually going to whip it out to prove to the guys that he could still get an erection my reaction was pretty much Zach and Andrew’s reaction. With added giggling.
Rin says: I am really disturbed that this is in the category called ‘The Meat’.
Sophy says: It ain’t the meat.
Welcome Back, Face
Sophy says: SMG/snowglobe forever.
When Simon said the man in the snowglobe was still out there somewhere I said “YES HE IS. AND HE SHOULD BE PLAYED BY DAVID BOREANAZ.”
WHAT. IT COULD HAPPEN. THEY SAID IT NEVER SNOWED IN SUNNYDALE. YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING.
Rin says: STRONG IS FIGHTING. IT’S HARD AND IT’S PAINFUL AND IT’S EVERY DAY. IT’S WHAT WE HAVE TO DO. AND WE CAN DO IT TOGETHER.
BUT IF YOU’RE TOO MUCH OF A COWARD FOR THAT, THEN BURN.
