Best Song

New Directions – Valerie

Rin says: YESSSS. Freaking hell, talk about a match made in heaven. Santana singing Valerie was just glorious. And I love love love that it was all her with everyone else backing in support. She rocked it and it was amazing. And omg, the Brittana throughout the song was adorable. AS WAS THE BRITTANY/MIKECHANG dancing…ffff, amaze.

Sophy says: Santana is a pistol okay. SHE’S A PISTOL. I adored this and I’m not even a Winehouse fan. To be honest, I wanted to choose every performance in this episode for best song, except (ESPECIALLY???) the old people. It was just that full of musical awesome. But SANTANA IS A PISTOL and also this had adorable Brittana in it, which we are sorely lacking these days, and when you add in the spectacular swing dancing from Brittany and Mike Chang… I can do nothing but this: 8-.

Biggest LOL

“Adultery means cheating.”
“I thought it meant being stupid. Like being a dolt.”

Rin says: This scene immediately reminded me of Sophy and her love for Harry. The great big dolt :X

Sophy says: AHHAHAA.

OH BRITTANY. COULD YOU BE ANY CUTER?

Best Scene

New Directions – Dog Days Are Over

Rin says: OH GLEE. GLEE. This is what you’re supposed to be about. All these kids, these bunch of misfits who are brought together to create magic. A lot of people think they ruined Florence, but come on, I thought it was brilliant. And I have just as much attachment to the song as the rest of you Skins kids. It was lovely and perfect, and I kind of lol’d that Mercedes would ever be considered an ‘unsung’ hero since she probably sings the most after Finn and Rachel.. but TINA. TINA. Thank god they gave this girl her moment. She is fantabulous and finally we get to see all that stage training we all know Jenna has. I also really loved that final shot of the kids all hugging and it tilts up to the lights. It reminded me of old Glee.

Sophy says: MAGIC. I was skeptical about this because I love that song, both for itself and as a big damn Effy song, but I was pleasantly surprised with the Glee rendition. What I loved about it was that it was natural – just the kids being kids, no fancy costumes and lights, no big name guest stars in the mix… it was a return to the Glee of yore, and I was beaming all the way through. Also, Tina’s voice. Can I have more of that please? LOTS MORE???

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Best ‘Brittany is random’ Moment

Brittany’s paralysed with fear…and she really needs to pee!

Rin says: There is literally nothing she cannot do. She makes every scene the best of the episode. LOOK AT HER LITTLE FACE, PEEKING OUT FROM HER CORNER OF PARALYSIS.

Sophy says: OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD. I will never stop watching this show as long as Brittany remains this awesome. I am doomed to sit through it, no matter how bad it gets.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Rophy Says No!

The new member of Glee club. And Brittany/Artie.

Rin says: DO NOT WANT THIS NEW UNGRATEFUL MEMBER OF GLEE. You’re not amusing, you’re not likeable, you’re annoying and annoying. Get out.

Sophy says: ‘Because show choir sucks!’ What was that even supposed to be? Like… was it even supposed to be funny? Seriously, I’m confused. WHAT WAS THAT?

I did not like the random new member, and I didn’t like the whiff of fat-joke they brought to the episode with the whole bribing her with food aspect. And no, the fact that she ~rocked Puck’s world does not make it okay. Really, really not.

AND OH GOD WRITERS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME? I was dismayed to find that Artie/Brittany was actually cute this week. But I’m still going to say No. Because let’s face it, Brittany and the comb were doing most of the work.

AND HOW MUCH CUTER WOULD IT HAVE BEEN WITH SANTANA INSTEAD OF ARTIE?

Just saying.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Head In Hands

It’s Achele. Happening.

Rin says: Didn’t Quinn say earlier in the episode she wanted to punch Rachel every time she opened her mouth? OH SURE QUINN, NICE PUNCHING GOING ON THERE. Sly minx.

Sophy says: LOL REMEMBER IN DUETS WHEN SHE WANTED TO ~TORTURE RACHEL? I wonder what she did then. Licked her nose???

Rin says: Omg, that’s canon now. Personal canon.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Most Rophy

“Do you ever fantasize about your own funeral?”
“No.”
“I DO!”

Rin says: I love this moment so much. OH RACHEL, I wish we could point out all of the tantalising moments you had throughout the ep (tape over her mouth ffs) but this one just stands out. She’s the best one.

I’ve had Death Cab for Cutie’s ‘Marching Bands of Manhattan’ picked out as my funeral song for years now.

LOOK AT RACHELS DAY DREAMY FACE AND KURTS HORRIFIED FACE. Oh these two were so cute in this ep together. I love them.

Sophy says: OH RACHEL. You and I, we understand one another.

Rachel and Kurt were the very most of adorable in this episode. I loved that she admitted that he was her biggest competition and I just about flailed when she was grinning at him in the audience and telling him to smile. These two are my platonic OTP for this show, I think. Only because Quinn and Rachel are gay for one another :)

Quinn Glory Shot

Rin says: …8-. 8-. 8-. And Quinn please sing more. I love your voice because it’s not big and belty. It’s you, and it’s lovely.

Sophy says: SHE’S SO BEAUTIFUL AND SWEET apart from the whole being a huge lying, manipulating, slushy-throwing bitch for most of season one but whatever, I can forgive and forget. And her voice reflects that beauty and sweetness perfectly.

IN CONCLUSION, I would like to take a moment to say how much I loved this episode. It’s the first one I’ve felt really happy about in a long time and I hope the writers can keep it up.

IN CONCLUSION ALSO, I officially adore Blaine. The way he was looking at Kurt during Argentina? All amused/worried/impressed/affectionate? Love. I can’t wait to see their relationship develop, and I really hope the writers take care with it, because it has the potential to steal my heart away.

    I love how you’ve never once mentioned Sam in these recaps. Like…if we don’t talk about him, he just doesn’t exist. I approve wholeheartedly. Most. Pointless. Character. Ever.

    Considering the crappy season 2, 209 was one of the best episodes. And it was about time they let someone else sing apart from Finn and Rachel. I’m pretty sure they won’t keep that new girl, she’ll be even more pointless than Sam (whose duet with Quinn I enjoyed, i must admit). All of the songs were great, and Brittany was awesome as always!

      BUT BUT BUT. She’s in the Christmas episode too. And they used her for another ‘lol fat people and their eating’ joke :(

    Oh god, my heart jumped and my eyes got wide when I read the “hey, remember those recap things?” title, I thought it was skins 402 and I squeeled… damn it.
    Well at least it’s something to look forward to in the new year I guess.

    Cheers :)

  7. I’ve officially given up on Glee. Jane Lynch and HeMo weren’t enough to make me sit through all the other crap.
    I’m now counting on Rophy recaps to tell me if it’s worth watching an ep or not. Thanks Rophy for making TV better.

      TELL ME THAT’S NOT IN RESPONSE TO THIS EPISODE. I loved this episode so hard. Not so much the Christmas one though. More on that later.

      • Not this episode making me feel this way. The show is getting me down generally. I want to blame Gwyneth Paltrow but the disenchantment was building long before then. I can’t stand the lack of *something, anything* and when it started I actually really loved it. Now I’m choosing what episodes to watch based on the Rophy recap. This one sounded good so I watched. You have not failed me yet. Except maybe on Dexter and my creepy Dexter filled nightmares.

          Yeah, Glee has only had a few good eps this season. And it wasn’t much chop at the end of last season either. MUCH CHOP. I haven’t used that expression in decades. ♥

          • MUCH CHOP…is kind of something my Nana would say. Have you been around decades? Was infant Sophy known for saying Play School is not much chop?
            I really liked the first half of the first season and I’ve been waiting for it to get better ever since.

    HA! After much searching and no finding I had to scroll down the comments and hope someone pointed the Easter egg out. Thank God for Brit’s keen eye!

    I remember watching this episode and almost having a heart attack when Dog Days came on. I was tempted to press stop and turn my laptop off in fear they were going to ruin the song for me. But after a few milliseconds of cringing I actually enjoyed the scene. It was fun, and a great way to finish the episode. Also, Tina singing this song = amazing. Oh & Santana galloping like a horse was a cute lol.

    The only thing I noticed in the Dog Days Are Over caps is that there’s no Artie, which is great! Is that the Easter egg? Or is there something else I missed?

    Woah, it looks like they’re having a little mosh pit in the screen cap with the stand-in o.O Finn, don’t hold Santana like that. That’s Brittany’s job.

    Wow they really delivered on the adorableness of the promised adorable old people I was just “awwwwww” and then the Warblers and Rachel/Kurt SO cute.

    I think Dog Days was my favorite performance of the season old Glee indeed! I wish they would get back to being about the magic that happens when you sing with other people – in a non-shovel-over-the-head-driving-shit-in way. The simplicity of the scene and for once this fucking season just letting the performance say what it says on its own. Beautiful. Needs more.
